Good taste, good life.
By: Dawn McVay    (May 26, 2009)

Harvest season has started again at Salt Creek Farm. So good not only to be out in the field again tasting the crisp sweet of a fresh pulled kale stalk, but to be with these people. A humble five acres and a humble farm family--but don't be fooled: worn baseball caps belie brilliant minds and gems of wisdom among both farm family and crew. The magic of the land. It's all delicious, with an emphasis on richly restoring leafy greens and the winter-matured onions in spring, the powerfoods like beets, carrots, peas and broccoli in summer, and the warming, satisfying root vegetables in the fall. Tomato time brings an annual ritual: the tomato tasting, to see which varieties earn a place in next year's crop. I have never tasted tomatoes like this before, anywhere. In the northwest Olympic peninsula, this is the only community supported agriculture farm truly functioning as such. Just about the best local cause you could support.
